Class 3

Welcome to Class 3!

Our class is a mixed class of wonderful Y1 and Y2 children who thrive on learning in lots of different ways.

Parents/carers will be able to follow their children's progress throughout the school year.  Please follow our school Twitter feed which shows the brilliant work/activities we will be doing.  The Twitter feed contains images and videos of work created by the students and teacher updates.

Please find a copy of the newsletter below for Class 3 with key information, such as reading days, snacks, topics and homework etc.

Due to changes by X (Twitter) the embedded timeline will only be visible if you are logged into your X (Twitter) account.

Phonics Screening

The Year 1 children will complete a Phonics Screening check which is completed nationally throughout England.  The screening check is taken individually by all children in Year 1 in England and is usually taken in June. It is designed to give teachers and parents information on how your children is progressing in phonics.  It will help to identify whether your child needs additional support at this stage so that they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill.

The test contains 40 words, each child will sit one-to-one with a teacher and read each word aloud. The test is a combination of 20 real words and 20 pseudo words (nonsense words). The results will be given to parents at the end of the Summer term stating if they have passed or not. If the child does pass, they will retake the test in Year 2. Year 1 parents will be invited to attend a parents meeting during the Spring term which will explain the Phonic Screening check in more detail.

Y2 SATS

Your child’s teacher is responsible for judging the standards your child is working at in English reading, English writing and Mathematics, by the end of Key Stage 1. To help inform those judgements, pupils sit national curriculum tests in English and Mathematics, commonly called SATs. They may also sit an optional test in English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

The tests are a tool for teachers to help them measure your child’s performance and identify their needs as they move into Key Stage 2. They also allow teachers to see how your child is performing against national expected standards. The tests can be taken any time during May and they are not strictly timed. Pupils may not even know they are taking them as many teachers will incorporate them into everyday classroom activities.

Teachers will use the results from these tests, along with the work your child has done throughout the year, to help them reach their own judgements about how your child is progressing at the end of Key Stage 1.  These teacher assessment judgements will be reported to you by the end of the Summer Term.

Parents will be invited to a meeting in the Spring Term, which will hopefully settle any worries or queries regarding these tests.
