As a Parish we desperately need to get back to the tradition we all grew up with of regular attendance at weekly Mass so that the children and all of us will respond to Jesus’ command at the Last Supper:
“Do this in memory of me”
The past couple of years have seen a massive swing away from regular attendance at weekly Mass by parents and children and we have to reverse this awful state of affairs. The Mass is the most practical way to obey the very basics of Christianity, showing our love both for God and our neighbour, which is our vocation, which is what we are doing by our attendance at Mass.
The only ones who can make this happen are you the parents and carers, accepting that this should be the norm if we are to go on calling ourselves Roman Catholics and make the church a real presence in our world.
It is in our hands and the hands of the children that the Faith for the future of the Church rests. So please do your very best for the sake of the children and the sake of the Parish and the whole Catholic Church for the future.
Yours in the Risen Lord
Peter McKie (Very Rev.) (Parish Priest)
